Violinist and singer Emily Wells loves rap music and Vivaldi. Money Mark (Mark Ramos-Nishita) is a musician and producer who transformed the sound of the Beastie Boys. From these unique perspectives, the two artists come together for a special collaborative performance, where classical roots meld with hip-hop rhythms, looped violin melodies, funk, folk, and Afro-Cuban- and Latin-inspired jams.

Hopper's Silence

Look at one of Edward Hopper's paintings and you feel an immediate emotional response. His sense of light and shadow, composition, and human drama are remarkable. Brian O'Doherty, a good friend of Hopper's, has compiled extraordinary archival footage and blended it with interviews, insights, and the paintings themselves to create an exquisite portrait of this quiet artist and his world. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Getty Scholars Brian O'Doherty and Barbara Novak.

Designing more than 40,000 individual housing units across the United States, Krisel's influential work has become synonymous with mid-20th-century Southern Californian design. This screening will be followed by a conversation between Krisel and Wim de Wit, head of the Department of Architecture and Contemporary Art, the Getty Research Institute.

The Ancient World in Silent Cinema

In the earliest days of cinema, more than 800 films were made which drew their inspiration from the ancient Mediterranean.
