As one of the preeminent figurative sculptors in modern art, Aristide Maillol (1861–1944) was an influential predecessor to artists such as Henry Moore and Alberto Giacometti. Despite his placement in the early 20th century, Maillol's work emphatically looks back to the classical traditions of sculpture. Discover new insights into the career of Maillol based on the Norton Simon Museum's intimate exhibition on the artist's life and smaller format pieces, and explore the history of sculpture through the lens of Maillol's work at the Getty Museum in this collaborative two-part course. In this three-hour workshop, join Museum educator Eidelriz Senga and horticulturist Darren Butler as you discover the significance of food cultivation on ancient life. After visiting the gardens and artwork at the Getty Villa, you'll create a small culinary herb garden in the studio to take home. Course fee $65; $50 students.
