Bowery, Leigh (Australian performance artist, 1961-1994, active in England)
|
Note: Active from the early 1980s in the London underground club scene, Bowery created clothing that stretched the boundaries of taste and convention. He created solo performances that incorporated his costumes, and in collaboration with the choreographer and dancer Michael Clark. Toward the end of his life he became known as the subject of a series of nude portraits painted by Lucian Freud. |
