Woolnoth, Thomas, Sr. (English engraver, painter, 1785-1871)

Note: Noted stipple engraver. He was engraver to the Philosophical Society in Edinburgh. He was the historical engraver appointed to Queen Victoria: Engraver to the Queen in ordinary. He devoted his later years to literary pursuits, due to failing eyesight. Note that his contemporary obituary states his death date as 12 January 1871; the death date 1857, noted in various later biographical resources, is erroneous.
