Aristides of Thebes (Greek painter, 4th century BCE)
|
Note: According to the writings of Pliny, there were two painters in Thebes in the 4th century BCE, both named Aristeides. It is unclear if they were related, but they may have been grandfather and grandson. Pliny criticized the younger Aristeides for using colors that were harsh, but praised him for being the first painter to depict the soul and to give expression to emotions. |
