Amoedo, Rodolpho (Brazilian painter, 1857-1941)

Note: In 1868, he moved from his hometown to Rio de Janeiro. In 1873, he studied at the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios in Rio de Janeiro and the following year, he enrolled in the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes. Travelled to Paris in 1879, as a pensioner of the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes and studied at the Académie Julian and the Ecole National Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. He returned to Brazil in 1887. The following year he was named professor of historical painting at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro. In 1893 he became vice director of that institution.
