Chevalier, Vincent (French photographer, optical instrument maker, and engineer, 1770-1841)
|
Note: Chevalier was an optical instrument maker who opened a shop in Paris on the Quai de l'Horloge around 1804. He was joined in the business by his son Charles Chevalier in 1821. They designed mainly optical lenses, and in the 1830s began to manufacture daguerreotype cameras and lenses. Charles left the firm in 1832 and opened his own shop. Vincent Chevalier was Daguerre's optician and supplied him with daguerreotype equipment. In 1840 Chevalier was producing his own microphotographs. |
