Note: Impressions taken from a print, drawing, or printed or handwritten textual work, by pressing the original against a sheet of damp paper, often by passing it through a rolling press. Some of the ink of the original is transferred to the damp paper; the resulting image appears in reverse and may be fainter than the original. The original may be damaged in the process. Counterproofs are often made as part of the working process and are used as aids in correcting for the final version. In some cases, counterproofing was used to produce the finest quality copperplate printing; the second print consisted of delicate lines, and lacked the beveled impressions seen in the original print. Counterproofs are sometimes created as forgeries of valuable prints and drawings but the mirror image gives such copies away. For images or marks that result from an unintentional transfer of ink or other medium, use "offsets."

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 將版畫或繪圖壓於濕紙上，再經過凹版印刷機而成的印刷。有些版畫或圖像的油墨會轉移至濕紙，最終圖像將以反面的形式呈現，並較原圖模糊。版畫或繪圖通常在這個過程中會損壞。逆試版製作通常是印刷程序的一部分，用作修改最後版本的輔助工具，有時逆試版也會成為貴重版畫或圖像的僞造品，但其鏡像的特性顯露了仿造的事實。對於因油墨或其他媒介非刻意的轉移而成之圖像或印記，使用「反印」一詞。 |
| Dutch ..... Afdrukken gemaakt van een afdruk of tekening door die tegen een vochtig vel papier aan te drukken, vaak door deze door een rolpers te laten gaan. Een deel van de inkt van de afdruk of tekening wordt overgebracht naar het natte papier; het resulterende beeld verschijnt in spiegelbeeld en kan vager zijn dan het origineel. De afdruk of de tekening raakt gewoonlijk beschadigd tijdens het proces. Tegenafdrukken worden vaak gebruikt als onderdeel van het werkproces en worden gebruikt als ondersteuning bij het corrigeren van de definitieve versie. Tegenafdrukken worden soms gemaakt als vervalsingen van waardevolle afdrukken en tekeningen, maar doordat het beeld in spiegelbeeld is, zijn deze vervalsingen vrij gemakkelijk te herkennen. Gebruik 'offsetdrukken' voor afbeeldingen of tekens die zijn ontstaan door onopzettelijke overdracht van inkt of een ander medium. |
