prayer nuts (prayer beads, religious visual works, ... Visual and Verbal Communication (hierarchy name)) |
|
Note: Small, extravagant devotional objects, typically dating from the Middle Ages. A prayer nut is composed of two hemispherical pieces of carved wood connected with a hinge to form a round 'nut.' The halves of an actual nut shell, such as a walnut shell, may be used instead. The two halves customarily contain richly carved religious scenes. |
