|
Note: Refers to symbols or other marks made by masons, generally incised into the stone. They were used to indicate a mason's responsibility for a building or sections of a building. They were often very elaborate marks, sometimes used in conjunction with a signature. The term may also refer to marks incised on stones to indicate in which part of the building they belonged.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar symbolen of andere tekens die door steenhouwers zijn gemaakt en meestal in de steen zijn gekerfd. De steenhouwer wilde daarmee aangeven dat hij verantwoordelijk was voor het betreffende gebouw of voor bepaalde delen daarvan. Vaak waren het complexe tekens, soms ook in combinatie met een handtekening. De term kan eveneens verwijzen naar tekens die in stenen zijn gekerfd om aan te geven in welk deel van het gebouw ze thuishoorden. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a símbolos u otras marcas hechas por albañiles, generalmente incisas en la piedra. Eran usadas para indicar las responsabilidades de los albañiles con relación a una construcción o partes de una construcción. Usualmente eran marcas muy elaboradas, algunas veces empleadas en conjunto a una firma. El término también puede referirse a marcas incisas en piedras para indicar a que parte de la construcción pertenecen. |
