Note: Tools intended for cutting, digging, or removing earth or turf, in the form of a wooden haft attached to an oblong metal blade. The haft usually has a cross-bar or handle at the end for grasping while forcing the metal blade into the ground with the foot. The blade itself is often formed to accommodate foot pressure. For similar tools with longer handles or hafts and broader blades intended for moving matter, use "shovels."

| Dutch ..... Gereedschap voor het doorklieven, graven of verwijderen van aarde of graszoden, in de vorm van een houten steel, bevestigd aan een langwerpig metalen blad. De steel heeft meestal een T-greep of handvat aan het uiteinde om de spade mee vast te houden terwijl het metalen blad met de voet in de grond wordt gedreven. Het blad zelf is vaak zo gevormd dat de voet er goed druk op kan uitoefenen. Gebruik 'schoppen' voor soortgelijk gereedschap met een langere handgreep of steel en een breder blad, bestemd voor het verplaatsen van materiaal. |
