Dutch ..... Genus van ongeveer tien soorten hoge bladverliezende sier- en productiebomen met een gerimpelde schors en lansvormige bladeren. Kastanjes zijn inheems in de gematigde gebieden van Noord-Amerika, Europa, Afrika en Azië. Sommige soorten produceren lichtroodbruin hout dat men gebruikt voor bouwwerken en andere doelen. Ook kan men uit een aantal soorten een plantaardige kleurstof winnen.
