Note: A vegetable dye created from extract from the bark of chestnut trees, having a dark color that was used as a dye in 19th century Italy and southern France to make an inexpensive fast blackish dye for silk. Tannin of the chestnut bark produces a firm, heavy leather with a pale, reddish color. Chestnut extract is usually mixed with other tannins, such as quebracho, mimosa, or myrobalans.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 指稱從板栗樹樹皮中粹取汁液加以製作的深色植物性染料,於西元十九世紀的義大利及法國南部使用作為一種快速而廉價的黑色絲綢染料。板栗樹皮的單寧能製作出質地結實厚重的淡紅色皮革。板栗萃取物通常會與其他植物單寧混合使用,如破斧木、含羞草或餘甘子等。  
Dutch ..... Een plantaardige verfstof die is gemaakt van extract van de schors van kastanjebomen. Het heeft een donkere kleur en werd in de 19e eeuw in Italië en Zuid-Frankrijk gebruikt voor het maken van een goedkope zwartachtige verfstof voor zijde. Looizuur van de kastanjeboomschors maakt leer zwaar en stevig, met een bleke roodachtige kleur. Kastanje-extract wordt meestal gemengd met andere looizuren, zoals quebracho, mimosa of myrobalans.
