Dutch ..... Verwijst naar heersers die absolute, onbeperkte macht uitoefenen op het bestuur van een land of staat. Vaak verwijst de term naar personen die een vorm van heerschappij zonder erfopvolging uitoefenen. De term kan ook in zijn oorspronkelijke betekenis worden gebruikt, namelijk als titel van functionarissen in het oude Rome en latere Italiaanse staten die in tijden van crisis werden gekozen en voor de duur van deze periode met onbeperkte macht werden bekleed. Gebruik 'tirannen' voor heersers die op wrede, onderdrukkende of onrechtvaardige wijze misbruik maken van hun macht. |
