Note: Screw-shaped surfaces mounted inside a pipe, used for raising water. These are among the earliest form of hydraulic machine used for lifting water from a low-lying body of water onto another surface, often for irrigation. In a contemporary context, Archimedean screw pumps are widely used in wastewater treatment plants and for dewatering low-lying regions.
