| Dutch ..... Midden- en Zuid-Amerikaanse vaten voor vloeistoffen, oorspronkelijk gemaakt van een pompoen of gedroogde kalebas, maar tegenwoordig ook soms van klei, zilver of andere metalen. De vloeistof wordt soms gedronken met een soort rietje, een 'bombilla'.

| Spanish ..... Taza o pequeño contenedor de diversos materiales, en especial el fruto de la calabaza, en el cual se sirve la infusión de yerba mate por medio de una bombilla filtradora. Con posterioridad se hicieron frecuentes los mates de loza y metal, destacando entre estos últimos aquéllos que forman parte del conjunto que incluye la salvilla. Se refiere a una vasija realizada originariamente a partir de una calabaza seca y vaciada. Posteriormente confeccionados también en plata u otros metales. Se emplea en Hispanoamérica para beber líquidos, especialmente la yerba mate, con la ayuda de una bombilla. |
