Indian Removal (American history, 1830-1839)

Note: Period of conflict between the United States government and various Native American nations. Instigated by the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which legislated the forced relocation of Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Seminole, and Creek (Mvskoke) people to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). Other Native communities were also forcibly relocated during this period, including the Shawnee from Ohio and Kentucky, the Potawatomi from Wisconsin, and the Kickapoo from Illinois and Missouri, amongst many others.
