A Dish With One Spoon (North American history, ratified 1701)

Note: Peace agreement between the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and the French, marked with several weeks of feasting. The phrase "A Dish With One Spoon," or in Ojibwe, "Gdoo-naaganinaa," refers to sharing land and resources, with the dish representing the land and the spoon referring to individuals working together. Ratified in 1701 in Montréal by wampum belts; the belts contain visual designs of one dish to represent the treaty. Conceptually based in earlier agreements between Indigenous leaders. The agreement has been used in Canadian courts and negotiations since its ratification, with its most recent usage in 2017.
