	Battle of Spotsylvania Court House (American Civil War battle, 1864)

Note: The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, waged from May 8-21, 1864, saw Union forces fail to overtake the Confederates defending Richmond, Virginia. Following the Battle of the Wilderness (May 5–6), Union General Ulysses S. Grant moved his left flank forward, engaging the Confederate forces of General Robert E. Lee at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. Union casualties were 18,000; Confederate casualties were 11,000.
