![]() | Philippine Revolution (Filipino-Spanish history, 1896-1898) | |
| Note: Revolution and conflict closely associated with the Spanish-American war, which ended Spanish colonial rule in the country. At the head of the leadership of the revolution was Andres Bonifacio, who had organized a revolutionary society known as the Katipunan. Bonifacio was accused of sedition and killed by his replacement Emilio Aguinaldo, though Aguinado's forces were pushed back by the Spanish. A pact was signed and Aguinaldo was exiled in Hong Kong, but returned to the Philippines to fight against the United States, who had meanwhile defeated the Spanish. | |
