Note: Narrative or devotional themes surrounding the torture and death of St. Barbara; she had been kept in a tower and isolated by her father; she became a Christian and rejected marriage, enraging her father. She suffered torture in prison for her faith; she was condemned to death by beheading. Her father himself carried out the death sentence; as punishment, he was struck by lightning on the way home. | |
