Visio Tnugdali (visionary tales, Brother Marcus, 1149/1154)

Note: Set of tales of a wealthy and errant Irish knight, who had visions of a journey through Hell and Paradise with an angel for a guide. As a result of his experience, Tondal is spiritually transformed and vows to lead a more pious life. The work was popular in the medieval genre of visionary infernal literature; by the 15th century, it had been translated and interpreted based on the original Latin work into 15 languages. The Latin text was written down shortly after 1149 by Brother Marcus, an Irish itinerant monk, in the Scots Monastery, Regensburg. He reports having heard the account from a knight named Tundalus.
