Beheading of Saint John the Baptist (Christian iconography)

Note: Narrative concerning the beheading of John the Baptist, or devotional image of the head or John beheaded. In the story, Herod at the request of Herodias and his step-daughter, Salome, has John beheaded. John had preached against the marriage of Herod to Herodias, the wife of Herod's brother. From Matthew 14:3-12; Mark 6:17-29.
