Joachim, Saint (Christian character)

Note: Father of the Virgin Mary, husband of St. Anne. The story of Joachim and Anne derives from the Protoevangelium of James. Joachim and Anne were pious but childless. Angels appeared to both Joachim and Anne announce the conception of a child; a child born of an elderly mother was thought to be destined for greatness.
