Heracles and the Nemean lion (Greco-Roman narrative)

Note: Narrative and a "labor" of Heracles, wherein he was required to slay a vicious monster-lion who was terrorizing a population and who could not be killed with arrows or other mortals' weapons. Heracles stunned the creature with his club and then strangled it using his enormous strength. According to Herodotus, there were European lion populations in ancient Greece until they became in the 1st century BCE.
