German ..... Die Gruppe von Jägern kehrt, begleitet von einer erschöpften Hundemeute, in das unterhalb liegende Dorf zurück. Nur ein einzelner Fuchs hängt an einem der geschulterten Spieße. Links daneben bereitet man das Sengen eines Schweines über offenem Feuer vor. Vergnügliche Details wie das Schlittschuhlaufen auf zugefrorenen Teichen haben zur enormen Popularität des Bildes beigetragen. Doch nicht die Summe der Details sondern die Gesamtwirkung machen seine Bedeutung aus. Virtuos und konsequent evoziert Bruegel den Eindruck permanenter Kälte. |
