| Note: From Mogao Grottoes Cave 17, Dunhuang, Gansu Province. Well-preserved so-called banner painting from Dunhuang; has survived almost complete, with headpieces, side and tail streamers and weighting boards; the transmedia spatial play in the layering of physical textile, painted textile, and atmospheric phenomena is characteristic of Dunhuang painting during the Tang period. The work utilizes a broad range of colors, arrayed so as to maximize the painting’s overall vibrancy. | |
