| Allegorical Portrait of the van Risamburgh Family (sculpture (visual work); Joseph Chinard (French, 1756 - 1813) (French Artist); 1790; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center (Malibu, Los Angele...; 94.SA.2) | |
| Note: This marble group depicts a female figure with the costume and attributes of the goddess Minerva, standing on a support of billowing clouds. In her left hand she raises her aegis and drapery to shield the nude, sleeping youth languidly seated beside her. The boy is perched upon a pile of classicizing armor and weaponry carved with exquisite detail. A shield bearing the relief portrait of a togate male sitter and surmounted by an ancient Roman-style plumed helmet leans against the front of the base, between the standing goddess and the sleeping youth. | |
