Note: Pierre Lélu, an etcher and painter from Paris, traveled to Italy where he etched prints after the works of several artists, including Raphael, the Carracci and Domenichino; The etching in red/brown ink reproduces in reverse Giorgio Vasari's painting known as the Allegory of Conception or the Allegory of Redemption, of which there exist several versions (Florence, Chiesa di SS. Apostoli; Florence, Uffizi, inv. 1524; ...); A partially legible inscription is printed in red/brown ink in the plate's lower margin: Les Patriarches voient leur délivrance ... / il n'y reste que quelques taches / ... Inscriptions appear in reverse in the lower right corner of the image: Giorgio da / Rezzo inv. // P. Lélu fecit 1783; Forms part of the Leo Steinberg collection of prints (Special Collections accn. no. 2000.PR.16); Accompanied by Leo Steinberg's handwritten notes on mount concerning bibliography. Two figures are drawn on the verso of the impression.
