| Note: Title from Bartsch; Title in Hollstein: An armed man carrying a dead boy; Flemish engraver and draftsman active in Antwerp. Since ca. 1565 he lived in Italy, mainly in Rome, also in Venice; The print reproduces an antique sculpture possibly of Neoptolemus & Astyanax: a statue of a nude man, with laurel crown, shield, sheath and robe, carring a dead naked child over his shoulder. According to Hollstein the statue is located in Naples; Forms part of Reproductive prints mostly after Peter Paul Rubens (Special Collections accn. no. P990017**); Publication: 1574. | |
