Descriptive Note
Text: Replaced an earlier courthouse
located in the middle of Central Square. This new
structure was noted for being heated with steam, lighted
with gas chandeliers, and being fireproof: fireproofing
included the original slate roof (now copper) and
a method of using dirt and sand to fill the joist
space between floor and ceiling.
