Restoring a 17th-Century Masterpiece

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the extensive conservation of Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph (c. 1620) by Italian master Guercino. The painting belongs to the National Gallery of Ireland, where it usually hangs next to Caravaggio's The Taking of Christ, and has come to the Getty for a two-year restoration. After its conservation it will be on view at the Getty Center in 2017.

The Painted Menagerie

The Getty's beloved Brueghel painting, The Entry of the Animals into Noah's Ark, has traveled south where it's featured in Blessed Beasts and Curious Creatures: Animal Processionals from the 13th to the 21st Centuries—an exhibition at the Timken Museum of Art in San Diego examining humanity's changing relationship with animals, nature, and the world through Western art.
