Churros and Greek Theater in East L.A.

Luis Alfaro, the playwright of Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles opening at the Getty Villa in September, offers a look at his artistic process, which involved bringing the actors to East L.A. for a reading of the play. "My goal as an artist and citizen is not only to tell an interesting new story, but also to diversify the audience that will receive it," he says.

Boxing in Bronze

The Terme Boxer, also known as the Boxer at Rest, is one of the world's most famous examples of Hellenistic bronze sculpture. On loan from Rome, it is one of the highlights of the exhibition Power and Pathos: Bronze Sculpture of the Hellenistic World—an unprecedented gathering of Hellenistic sculpture on view at the Getty Center.

Scents of Versailles

How did Louis XIV's court smell? As the Museum gets ready to open Louis Style: French Frames, 1610–1792 in September, Saskia Wilson-Brown of the Institute for Art and Olfaction tells the fascinating story of how Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette were also great patrons of the fledgling perfume industry, whose wares were concocted with ingredients from rose petals to fox lungs.

A New Bernini

Gian Lorenzo Bernini made this marble bust of Pope Paul V in 1621, when the artist was only 23 years old. It now joins one other marble sculpture made by Bernini with his father Pietro, as well as two of Gian Lorenzo's drawings in the Museum's collection. The new sculpture is now on view at the Getty Center.
