"In the Beginning Was the Word": Medieval Gospel Illumination
August 30–November 27, 2011
The Getty Center
See how artists brought the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to life with pigment and gold leaf on the pages of illuminated manuscripts. The exhibition explores the varied approaches to illustrating the life of Christ, presenting a wide variety of books including Armenian, Ethiopian, Byzantine, and Western European examples. Workshops to Help Preserve Photographs in the Middle East
The Getty Conservation Institute is collaborating with the Qatar Museums Authority, the Art Conservation Department at the University of Delaware, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Arab Image Foundation on a new series of training workshops that will focus on photographic collections in the Middle East. The first workshop is scheduled to take place in Beirut in November 2011.
