Genther, Charles (American architect, engineer, city planner and professor, 1907-1987)
|
Note: Charles Genther received his Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, in 1939. He pursued graduate studies in 1939-1940 and 1942-1943 at the Armour Institute of Technology (later the Illinois Institute of Technology), Chicago, Illinois, under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Ludwig Hilberseimer. He worked with Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill and with Holabird & Root, where he met Wilbur Binford. Genther, Binford, John Kausal and William Cobb founded Pace Associates in January or February 1946. He developed town plans during the 1950s for mining companies in Minnesota and Michigan, and designed restaurant service areas and related facilities for the Illinois State Toll Highway Commission. From 1966, Genther taught architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. |
