Hilberseimer, Ludwig Karl (German architect, city planner, critic, and professor, 1885-1967, active in Germany and America)

Note: Ludwig Karl Hilberseimer was born 14 September 1885. He was educated at the Technische Hochschule, Karlsruche, from 1906 to 1911, where he studied under J.W. Durm. He was an architect and planner in various European cities, mainly Berlin, from 1918 to 1938, and he was the Founder and Director of the City Planning Department at the Bauhaus, Dessau, Germany, from 1929 to 1932. In 1938 he emigrated to the United States, and was naturalized in 1944. He was a Professor and Director of the Department of City and Regional Planning, 1938-57, and Professor Emeritus, 1957-67, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. He worked in private practice as a town planner in Chicago until his death on 6 May 1967. Architect and city planner, born Karlsruhe, Germany, emigrated to Chicago, 1938. |
