Berger, Otti (Croatian textile designer, 1898-after 1944, active in Germany)
|
Note: Born in Zmajavac, Austro-Hungary, deported to Auschwitz, Poland 1944. Student at the Kunstadademie Zagreb from 1921-1926. Student at the Bauhaus Weaving Workshop 1927-1930 and receives Bauhaus diploma. Head designer for curtain manufacturers Fischer & Hoffman, Zwickau, and consultant to linen manufacturer Websky, Hartmann and Yiesen 1930-1931. Heads the the Bauhaus Weaving Workshop 1931-1932. Establishes her own studio in Berlin and works as a designer for de Ploeg Company, the Netherlands from 1932-1935. She emigrated to England in 1937 and worked as a freelance designer. She lived in Yugoslavia from 1939 until she was deported to the concentration camp at Auschwitz, Poland, where it is presumed she died. |
