Merkelbach, Ben (Dutch architect, 1901-1961)
|
Note: Born 13 October 1901; died 19 October 1961. Ben Merkelbach trained at the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Haarlem, Netherlands. In 1924-1925 he worked in Belgium, and in 1927 he worked for nine months in the office of Mart Stam in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Also in 1927, with five other former students of the Kunstnijverheidsschool, he founded the group of architects known as "de 8". In 1929 Merkelbach formed a partnership with Charles Karsten (1904-1979). In 1949 Pieter Elling (1897-1962) replaced Karsten, and the practice continued until Merkelbach's appointment as municipal architect in Amsterdam in 1956. Dutch architect. |
