Feldman, Morton (American composer, 1926-1987)
|
Note: Champion of 'inderterminate music,' and close associate of John Cage, Earle Brown, and Christian Wolff. He created his own graphic system of notation. In late career he began to compose works notable for long duration. In 1973 he became the Edgard Varèse Professor at the University at Buffalo, his first official academic engagement. Prior to this, he had earned a living as an employee of his family's textile business in New York's garment district. |
