Ḥāfiẓ (Persian poet, ca.1325-ca.1389)
|
Note: Court poet to several rulers of Shīrāz, Ḥāfiẓ is considered one of the finest Persian lyric poets, and has retained popularity to the present day. He received a classical religious education and in addition to poetry he wrote commentaries on theological texts, and lectured on the Qur'ān. He was the master of the ghazal verse form, and is noted for his Dīvān. |
