Houédard, Sylvester, Dom (English monk, scholar, and concrete poet 1924-1992)
|
Note: Studied at Jesus College, Cambridge and later joined the Benedictine Abbey at Prinknash in Gloucestershire. He was ordained in 1959. One of the most active concrete poets in Britain, his works unite poetry and visual art. He used an ordinary Olivetti typewriter to create what he called 'typestracts,' often incorporating color through use of ribbons or carbon paper. He contributed to magazines and exhibitions from the 1960s, and was literary editor of the Jerusalem Bible. |
