Note: From 1939 to 1941, Fonseca studied architecture at the University of Montevideo and then joined the Torres-García Workshop, where he focused on mural painting. Fonseca lived in Paris in the early 1950s and later moved to New York after receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has exhibited internationally and is best known for his stone sculptures.
