Longueville, Charles (French painter, etcher, and sailor, 1829-after 1882)
|
Note: Longueville was a naval officer and an amateur painter and engraver. Graduated from the Naval Academy in 1845, he sailed to the Orient. In 1863 he was stationed on "L'Armorique," then was given command of the sloop "La Bourdonnais." He showed work for the first time at the Salon of 1865, then set out again aboard the "Borda." He showed work again in 1870. In 1875 he joined the Navy in the capacity of a painter. He took as subjects all that he had seen on his voyages: picturesque monuments of foreign lands, marine scenes, vessels, and landscapes. |
