Hadfield, George (American architect of English origin, born ca. 1763-1764, died 1826)

On the recommendation of the painter John Trumbull, then serving as Secretary to the American Minister to Great Britain, Hadfield was appointed superintendent of construction of William Thornton's U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. With his later projects he was one of the architects most responsible for bringing a true Greek Revival to the United States.
