Martens, Friedrich von (French photographer of German origin, 1809-1875)
|
Note: Martens, a steel engraver, was active in Paris, France, from the mid 1830s. From 1840 to 1842, he made engravings of city views, and also engraved several plates from daguerreotypes from Lerebours' book "Excursions daguerriennes". In 1845, Martens invented a panoramic camera and photographed the Swiss Alps and the Louvre in Paris. In 1855, Martens photographed the regions around Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, in Switzerland and France. In 1855, he was also appointed Photographer to the Cabinet of the Emperor. Martens worked with Léon Méhédin and Jean-Charles Langlois to produce a presentation album of the Crimean War for the French Emperor. Martens printed all of the negatives taken in the Crimea by Langlois. |
