Thyrsus Painter (Greek vase painter, active ca. 360-ca. 340 BCE in Apulia)
|
Note: A prolific but not superior vase painter. His work is connected to that of the Lecce Painter and Truro Painter as well as other artists grouped around them. His drawing is typically sketchy and his anatomical lines are very angular. His subject matter usually consists of women and youth. Many of the smaller vases attributed to this artist have been found at Paestum, perhaps indicating that he migrated there from Apulia, where he must have begun his career based on the connection with the Lecce Painter and the finding of many of his vases at Taranto. |
