Preissig, Vojtěch (Czech painter and printmaker, 1873-1944)

Note: He went to Paris in 1897 to work under Alphonse Mucha and studied grafics and photographic techniques. When he returned to Prague in 1903, he opened his own printing studio and published the review Česká Grafika. He lived in the United States from 1910-1930, teaching graphic arts in New York as well as acting as the director of the School of Printing and Graphic Arts, Wentworth Institute, Boston from 1916-1926. From the 1920s, his original secessionist style became more abstract and dependent on geometric forms. He worked with the resistance movement during WWII and died in a Nazi concentration camp.
