Oltos (Attic vase painter, active ca. 525-500 BCE)
|
Note: An Attic vase painter who began his career as a bilingual painter but became one of the most influential red-figure cup painters of the first generation following the Pioneers. More bilingual eye cups are attributed to him than to any other painter. He also painted larger shapes as well and worked for many different potters, including Nikosthenes. He is particularly noted for his innovative narrative arrangements, in which he often links the iconography of the cup's tondo to that of the exterior. His work presages that of later cup painters such as the Brygos Painter. |
