Bibiena, Giovanni Carlo Galli (Italian architect and scenographer, died 1760)
|
Note: Giovanni Carlo was member of the Accademia Clementina in Bologna. In that city he decorated the staircase of Palazzo Savini and the Cappella di S Antonio in S. Bartolommeo di Porta Ravegnana. He also devised a scheme for the decoration of the high altar of S. Petronio for the Bolognese Pope Benedict XIV. In 1752 he was summoned to Lisbon by Joseph, the King of Portugal, where he designed an opera house attached to the royal palace. Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed only seven months after completion in the terrible earthquake of 1755. |
