Note: Former group of five British-protected states on the Malay peninsula that were not part of the four Federated Malay States or the Straits Settlements. The term was in use from the late 19th century through World War II. The five Unfederated Malay States were: Kedah, Johor, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu. All states and settlements were eventually incorporated into present-day Malaysia.
